Dehydroepiandrosterone is the most potent testosterone. It is the one form of testosterone that has been shown in scientific studies to be in clear correlation to sexual desire and performance. Treatment with the over-the-counter hormonal therapy DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) may be effective in treating midlife-onset minor and major depression, according to a study in the February issue of the journal Archives of General Psychiatry. DHEA, an androgen hormone produced naturally by the adrenal gland, is also classified as a neurosteroid due to its effects on the brain. DHEA is also sold in supplement form in stores throughout the United States. Researchers at the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health studied 23 men and 23 women aged 45 to 65 with moderately severe midlife-onset minor or major depression. They initially received either six week of DHEA therapy or six weeks of placebo. The treatment groups were then reversed. The study participants were evaluated at three and six weeks during the treatment phases. A 50 percent reduction on a depression rating scale was noted in 23 volunteers following DHEA treatment and in 13 volunteers after placebo.

Gelatin Maltrin

MALTRINA maltodextrins are easily digestible carbohydrates made from natural corn starch. The starch is cooked, and then acid and/or enzymes are used to break the starch into smaller polymers (a process similar to that used by the body to digest carbohydrate). MALTRINA maltodextrins are generally sold as dried powders. MALTRINA maltodextrins are polymers of dextrose (sometimes labeled “glucose polymers”). MALTRINA maltodextrins do not contain significant quantities of protein, fat or fiber. MALTRINA maltodextrins are not produced from and do not contain malt products. Corn-based maltodextrins are safe for patients with celiac disease since they do not contain proteins from wheat, barley, oats or rye. MALTRINA maltodextrins are not known to contain MSG. Diabetics should follow the advice of their physicians. MALTRINA maltodextrin’s glycemic index should be considered metabolically equivalent to glucose (dextrose).

A good food source of magnesium contains a substantial amount of magnesium in relation to its calorie content and contributes at least 10 percent of the U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowance (U.S. RDA) for magnesium in a selected serving size. The U.S. RDA for magnesium is 400 milligrams per day. (The U.S. RDA given is for adults, except pregnant or lactating women, and children over 4 years of age.) The U.S. RDA for magnesium is the amount of the mineral used as a standard in nutrition labeling of foods. This allowance is based on the 1968 Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) for 24 sex-age categories set by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences. The 1989 RDA has been set at 280 milligrams per day for women 19 to 50 years of age and 350 milligrams for men 19 to 50 years of age Magnesium (Mg) is a trace mineral that is known to be required for several hundred different functions in the body. A significant portion of the symptoms of many chronic disorders are identical to symptoms of magnesium deficiency. Studies show many people in the U.S. today do not consume the daily recommended amounts of Mg. A lack of this important nutrient may be a major factor in many common health problems in industrialized countries. Common conditions such as mitral valve prolapse, migraines, attention deficit disorder, fibromyalgia, asthma and allergies have all been linked to a Mg deficiency. Perhaps, not coincidentally, these conditions also tend to occur in clusters together within the same individual. A magnesium deficiency as a root cause would provide a logical explanation of why some people suffer from a constellation of these types of problems.

DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a hormone that your own body's adrenal glands produce naturally. It is often called the "Master Hormone" because it controls a number of body functions (like metabolizing fat and synthesizing minerals into your system); it also has a particularly crucial influence on sex steroid production in your body. In fact, it's so potent that biologically, it's actually classified as a steroid -- and you know what that means for strength, explosiveness, and muscle mass. Strong DHEA levels are the body's way to keep from gaining weight, to feel younger and healthier, and reduce stress... while also contributing to the body's ability to ward off cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis and diabetes... and reducing the uncomfortable symptoms of PMS and menopause in women. That's why we've developed our DHEA supplement -- to augment your body's natural production of this crucial hormone. And we've further bolstered its effectiveness by adding Magnesium to our blend.

According to the US National Institutes of Health, Hormones provide these health benefits:

  • Growth and development Metabolism -- energy to exercise, think, and burn fat
  • Sexual function
  • Mood regulation: you simply feel better

And the NIH also informs us that Magnesium provides these health benefits:

  • Contraction and relaxation of muscles -- necessary for exercise
  • Function of certain enzymes in the body (to keep things running smoothly)
  • Production and transport of energy... for thinking and for working out
  • Production of protein (a building block for building muscle)

Additional health benefits being studied:

  1. Sexual health: Chemists and other scientists have launched numerous experiments to determine DHEA’s impact on male sexuality — androgynous activity. At Lehigh University, one study established DHEA’s multiple impacts on the Androgen Receptor — a key protein synthesizer of male sexual capability1.
  2. Multiple health functions: Health care professionals have known for years that Steroid Hormones such as DHEA catalyze numerous body processes, and they’re currently examining effects on obesity, aging, stress/PMS/mood, menopause, and cancer. One such study provided an excellent overview of these multiple processes2.
  1. As reported in the Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Volume 99, Issue 1, 2006: “Dehydroepiandrosterone and its metabolites: differential effects on androgen receptor trafficking and transcriptional activity” by Q. Mo, S.F. Lu, and N.G. Simon (Department of Biological Sciences, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA).
  2. As reported in the journal Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, Volume 380, Issues 1-2, 2013: “Metabolic control through glucocorticoid hormones: An update” by A.J. Rose and S. Herzig (Joint Research Division: Molecular Metabolic Control, German Cancer Research Center, Center for Molecular Biology, Heidelberg University, Network Aging Research, and University Hospital, Heidelberg, Germany).

1 capsule per day with breakfast. Discuss with your physician if you are pregnant or nursing. Keep out of reach of children.
