Kegel Exercises

A kegel is the name of a pelvic floor exercise, named after Dr. Kegel who discovered the exercise in 1948. I call them “the invisible exercise”, since you can do them when no one else can tell. Kegels are a series of exercises which can help tighten up the pubococcygeal muscles (PC muscles). These originate from your pubic bone, go under your genitals and attach to your tailbone. Both men and women have them. After pelvic surgery, pregnancy, or even as we age, these muscles lose their tone. This can result in a loss of bladder control, also called incontinence, a loose vagina, (especially after having a child), an inability to control ejaculation in guys, and a reduction of sexual pleasure for both men and women. Anything that promotes whole body health can enhance optimal functioning in the bedroom. Like any other sophisticated machine, your body is at its best when none of its relevant aspects are ignored. To get your temple in prime operating condition, there are several aspects of body and soul to consider. One indisputable reason to keep the arteries clear and the blood flowing smoothly is that a strong heart steadily pumping blood has a direct relationship to the strength of blood flow throughout the body. In both men and women strong blood flow to the genitals increases sexual arousal and (in men) intensifies the vitality and endurance of erection. Clogged arteries and sluggish blood flow result in decreased blood to the genitals and diminished arousal for both genders. If the blood flow is weak, so will be the performance. (more…)

5 Ways To Have Better Sex In 2009

Is it your heart’s desire to experience better sex with your partner? After all, sexual intimacy is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Unfortunately, in today’s society it is also one of the most coveted pleasures that remains elusive for many. So how can more of us achieve better sex in the New Year - less the nasty side effects of drugs?
Exercise:
Aerobic workouts improve blood flow to sex organs, and they can also boost your mood, pumping up “feel good” brain chemicals called endorphins. The increase in testosterone levels that arrives about one hour after working out can also leave you feeling sexier.
Relax:
Too much stress increases the stress hormone cortisol, which causes testosterone to plummet.
Create a sense of novelty:
Recent research shows that partaking in new and challenging experiences with your partner can boost the brain chemical dopamine, which helps fuel sex drive. This doesn’t even need to be in the bedroom — anything new is a good idea.
Consider some non-drug remedies:
Ginkgo biloba has been used to treat sexual dysfunction. Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) could be useful, since it’s critical for the manufacture of sex hormones in the adrenal glands. Choline may help to enhance levels of acetylcholine, a brain chemical that sends sexual impulses from your brain to your sex organs.
Avoid eating too much sugar:
Your sexual fires may also be fanned simply by eating less sugar. High levels of sugar in your bloodstream can actually turn off the gene (SHBG protein) that controls your sex hormones. This includes not only table sugar, but also ‘fructose’ which is hidden in most forms of processed foods.
Utilizing these proven techniques in your daily life will not only heat up your sex life in the New Year, but will allow you to live a healthy life over-all - year after year!
